Birds of Prey World Cup Update

Birds of Prey World Cup Update

Here at Spyder, we are lucky enough to have some of skiing's biggest events in our backyard. A good portion of our employees were able to get out and enjoy watching some of the best skiing in the world.

Day 1 - Super G: The weather was perfect with ideal course conditions to kick things off. Four Americans ended up in the top 30, and Travis Ganong led the team in 6th place.

Day 2 - Downhill: The downhill started off with high winds, which pushed the start down to the foul-weather start taking away the advantage for gliders like Steven Nyman (17th), but it did create opportunities for guys like Ryan Cochran-Siegle who posted a career best 6th place just 0.49 seconds off the leader. Jared Goldberg also had a great day finishing 22nd from his initial ranking of 43rd, which was a fantastic move up.

On Saturday Night, we hosted our annual athlete signing at Beaver Creek Sports which featured Spyder Athletes Steven Nyman, Jared Goldberg and River Radamus.

There were drinks and food along with a photo booth where fans could get their photo taken as one of the members of the US Ski Team. It's always incredible seeing the passion and enthusiasm for the sport in person. We are grateful so many fans came out to meet and cheer on the athletes all weekend long.

Day 3 - Giant Slalom: The final day of racing started off hot with Tommy Ford leading the field after run one and Ted Ligety in 4th. Run two was as exciting as it gets with Tommy Ford going last just after Henrik Kristoffersen. Henrik put down a blazing fast second run only for Tommy to come in with a beautiful second run and lock down the win by nearly a second!

It was Tommy Ford’s first career podium, let alone win, and was the icing on the cake for a great weekend of racing.

Stay tuned as we bring you more updates for this year's FIS World Cup events.
